Every topic in 13 years falls into one of three buckets.
Type 1 — Philosophical / abstract / quote-based (~35%)
A quote or abstract idea; short; no specific issue named; about life, truth, values, knowledge. Dominates Section A. The examiner wants analysis across domains, not a moral sermon.

Type 2 — Contemporary / issue-based (~25%)
Names a real issue — technology, economy, governance, environment — often with a debate built in. Dominates Section B. The examiner wants root causes, schemes and both sides — a thoughtful secretary, not a protester.

Type 3 — Hybrid (~40%, the biggest and growing)
Sounds philosophical but demands real-world substance, or a contemporary issue framed philosophically. Needs BOTH philosophical depth AND governance grounding.

Practise only Type 1 and you can attempt ~35% of options; only Type 2, ~25%. Learn the hybrid and you can handle ~75% of everything. And 2025 had zero pure contemporary topics — the paper is getting more philosophical, not less.
